HOME v.2: Homeland

Second Annual HOME Exhibition: Homeland

Presented by the Decatur Arts Alliance, the Decatur Land Trust, and the Georgia Center for the Book
Decatur, Georgia
May 29 — July 182026

The Decatur Arts Alliance and the Decatur Land Trust are partnering with the Decatur Library to present the second edition of powerful art show celebrating the multifaceted meaning of Home.” We invite artists of all mediums to lend their creative voices to this important cause.

A person’s or a people’s native land, we look to explore homeland” as a geographical point of origin and a state of being. Works should express cultural and ethnic elements, and elucidate the view of home” from the immigrant to the expatriate, the displaced to the indigenous. How do we find home” when we are away from the land of our forebears? What do newly arrived peoples do to preserve their culture and heritage? How do we honor and acknowledge the indigenous inhabitants of the lands upon which we all now live?

We encourage artists to explore these themes and more in your artwork. Let your creativity illuminate the diverse ways we experience and define home,” and your connection with a HOMELAND.”

The HOME Exhibition is a juried multimedia showcase. The exhibition will be installed in the Fourth Floor Gallery of the Decatur Library. The show runs May 29 — July 18, 2026 and is open during gallery hours on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. First Annual HOME Exhibition: Gimmie Shelter — Redefining and Reimagining the Place We Call Home’

Presented by the Decatur Arts Alliance, the Decatur Land Trust, and the Georgia Center for the Book
Decatur, Georgia
July 11 — August 162025

Housing is a fundamental human right, the cornerstone of stability and opportunity. It’s where families grow, dreams take root, and futures are built. But for many, the dream of a stable home in Decatur is slipping away. A stark reality faces our community: housing costs are skyrocketing while wages struggle to keep pace.

The Decatur Arts Alliance and the Decatur Land Trust are partnering with the Georgia Center for the Book and the Decatur Library to present a powerful art show, Gimme Shelter: Redefining and Reimagining the Place we call Home.’” We invite professional and student artists of all mediums – painters, sculptors, photographers, mixed media artists, and more – to lend their creative voices to this important cause.

What does home” mean to you? Is it a shelter, or a sanctuary? Is it a place on a map, or an internalized feeling of community? Does it feel further away as times and landscapes change, or is it suspended in time the farther you travel?

We ask artists to look beyond brick and mortar, beyond place and community, to let creativity illuminate the diverse ways we experience and define Home.”

The HOME Exhibition is a juried multimedia showcase. The exhibition was installed in the Fourth Floor Gallery of the Decatur Library. The show ran July 11 — August 16, 2025. An opening reception was held on Thursday, July 10 from 6:30 – 9 p.m. Learn more about the exhibition in full here, and stay tuned for more information about future shows.
