Notes of Interest

Jackie K. Cooper is an author, humorist and film critic whose books have captured with nostalgia and a gentle poignancy scenes of coping with life's challenges as an adult in the South. He has written five books and is a popular public speaker whose commentaries are also heard on Georgia Public Radio.

Jackie K. Cooper was born September 13, 1941, in Clinton, South Carolina. He grew up in the Palmetto state and received his B.A. at Erskine College in 1963 and a law degree from the University of South Carolina in 1967. At various times in his career he has written for Georgia newspapers including the Macon Telegraph, the Houston Home Journal and The Daily Sun. He has been a film critic for several radio stations in Georgia, and his reviews have been a popular feature of his online web page.

His first book, "Journey of a Gentle Southern Man: Reflections from the Road," was published in 2000 followed one year later by "Chances and Choices: Further Tales of a Gentle Southern Man." Of these books, Georgia author Terry Kay wrote admiringly of the author's "zeal, passion and integrity." His third book, "Halfway Home: the Journey Continues" (2004) is a look at life from the perspective of 50, while "The Bookbinder: More Stories from the Road" (2006) looks back on stories of an earlier time. His most recent book"The Sunrise Remembers," was released in 2008. He currently makes his home in Perry.
