John Simon reads from Strangers In A Stranger Land
November 13, 2019, 7:15
Come listen to John Simon discuss his book, Strangers in a Stranger Land, the first comprehensive history of Finland’s Jewish community. It examines the survival of Finland’s Jews against the background of the great powers’ struggles of the 19th and first half of the 20th centuries. In addition to its meticulously researched historical sections, the book contains a fact- based narrative of three generations of one fictional but representative Jewish family. By combining these two approaches, Simon explores the psychological and moral implications of the extraordinary circumstances into which these “strangers” were thrust while respecting the reader’s need to understand the unvarnished historical context. More than either a history text or historical novel, Strangers in a Strange Land is an original and holistic attempt to bring a significant but neglected part of Holocaust history to life. Doors open at 6:30. Event is free and open to the public. Books will be available to purchase and have signed.
