On The Same Page presents: Raina Telgemeier
Holy Trinity Parish Episcopal Church
October 23, 2019, 7:00
The 2019 selection for On The Same Page is Smile, by Raina Telgemeier. Raina is the author and illustrator of the graphic novels Smile, Drama, Sisters, and Ghosts, all #1 New York Times bestsellers. She also adapted and illustrated four graphic novel versions of Ann M. Martin’s Baby-sitters Club series, and has contributed short stories to many anthologies. Raina’s accolades include three Eisner Awards, a Boston Globe-Horn Book Honor, a Stonewall Honor, and many Best-of and Notables lists. Raina lives and works in San Francisco, CA. In Smile, Raina tells the true story of what happened after she tripped and fell on her way home from girl scouts, knocking out her two front teeth. As she struggles with dentists, headgear, retainers, and the wiring and rewiring of her mouth, she also wrestles with friends, school, and the everyday foibles of growing up. Smile was selected in the hopes that it will inspire kids to find their own voice and know they’re not alone in the awkward journey toward growing up. It’s also likely that, if you’re a parent, you’ve already seen your kid read and re-read books by this great author and cartoonist, and it’s our hope that you’ll take this opportunity to read the book as well, and discover what it is about this book that makes it so special to so many children, especially your own. Doors will open at 6:30. This event will be at Holy Trinity Parish Episcopal Church in Decatur, GA. It will be ticketed. Please check Facebook for details. ALL TICKETS TO THIS EVENT HAVE BEEN CLAIMED. However, there are a limited number of Photo Line Only tickets available here. These do not get you into the event, but do let you meet Raina and take a picture with her.
